Municipalities "open" to citizens

In the context of project implementation"Digital Platform for Participatory Democracy - LocalWatch"(with project code EEA-348), which is financed by the program"Active Citizens Fund in Greece", theVouliwatchin collaboration withcommonspaceinvites you toonline Press Conferencefor the presentation of the project, on Wednesday,November 3, 2021and time12.00.

THEpolitical participationand thesupervision of elected representativesand principles by citizens are fundamental principles for a solid, fair and truly open democracy. Unfortunately, to date, the leaderships have failed to invest time and effort to create the right conditions to facilitate democratic participation of citizens in the public, which has led them to feel frustrated, marginalized, "voiceless" and almost apathetic towards the public. . The high rate of abstention in the last elections in Greece and Europe demonstrates the need to mobilize innovative participatory means for democracy to regain its place in the minds and hearts of citizens.

Targetof Localwatch is to create an online, innovative platform, to its standardsVouliwatch, which will act as a bridge of communication, control and participation between the citizens and four Municipalities of Greece: Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Patras.

The platform will provide digital tools that willco-designedby citizens through a series of workshopsparticipatory planning,tothey controltheir elected representatives and their work, tothey co-shapewith the community members of the platform the policies of the local authorities, toevaluatetheir Municipality, yesorganizevolunteering actions in their cities and to have a say inbudgetof the Municipality (participatory budget).

TheVouliwatchwill design, develop and communicate the platform to the public and the Municipalities. THEommonspacewill undertake the activation of citizen target groups and organize participatory design workshops, platform tools and policy submissions.
