RealUrbanGreen
Testing a holistic model to co-design and co-implement healthy urban green spaces for climate-resilient cities and towns.
RealUrbanGreen aims to enhance the quality, resilience, and sustainability of Urban Green Spaces (UGS) across the Euro-Mediterranean region in response to the challenges of climate change. Urban green areas are essential for mitigating urban heat, reducing pollution, preserving biodiversity, and improving citizens’ well-being — yet they face growing threats from rising temperatures, droughts, and environmental degradation.
The project develops and tests a holistic, participatory model that enables local authorities and communities to co-design and co-manage healthier, greener, and more climate-resilient urban spaces. Through citizen science, stakeholder engagement, and co-implementation of nature-based solutions, RealUrbanGreen introduces an integrated approach that bridges science, governance, and public participation.
Eight pilot sites — located in cities, towns, and university campuses across the Euro-MED area — will apply and validate the model, addressing diverse climatic, environmental, and social contexts. The project’s outcome will be a practical and adaptable tool for municipalities, promoting a new vision of urban nature as a vital component of climate adaptation and collective well-being.
